What Causes Happiness?
What causes happiness is far more profound than things like success, relationships, money, a good night's sleep, and so on. These things help to trigger the experience of happiness.
At one level, money, success, relationships, a sunny day and such like can be said to be what causes happiness for many people. However, I see those kinds of things as only a part of what makes us happy.

Finding Bliss Unexpectedly
For many people, finding quiet inner bliss unexpectedly is an experience that most likely happens during childhood more than in adulthood. Young children's minds are usually more innocent than ours, with attention focused mostly on what is happening in the present moment than on thinking about the past or the future.
We're all different Everyone comes into this world with their own unique nervous system and set of life circumstances. So, experiences will naturally differ from person to person.
Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure that if...

Gratitude - A Means Or A Result?
Gratitude is said to be essential for creating a better life of health, wealth and happiness. But is this true? Is the daily journal, like the one Oprah and many others keep, and is the Abraham-Hicks exercise of a 'rampage of appreciation', an effective means for experiencing true happiness and abundance? Or is this human quality an automatic and spontaneous by-product of being happy and at peace with oneself?

Book: The Sound of Silence - Submitted by Pru Joy, Australia
"As you calm down you can experience the sound of silence in the mind. You hear it as a kind of high frequency sound, a ringing sound that's always there. It is just normally never noticed. Now when you begin to hear that sound of silence, it's a sign of emptiness - of silence of the mind. It's something you can always turn to.
"As you concentrate on it and turn to it, it can make you quite peaceful, blissful. Meditating on that, you have a way of letting the conditions of the mind cease without just suppressing them with another condition. Otherwise you just end up putting one condition over another.
"This process is ...

The Best Nutritional Supplement - But How Can One Tell?
Finding the best nutritional supplement is not really a viable pursuit, because it all depends on your body's needs. Also, one's needs are different at different times. Moreover, everyone is different, and different supplements can have different effects on different individuals.
Do we actually need to supplement our diet anyway?
There is enough researched evidence available today to conclusively show that the nutritional value of food in the 21st century is significantly lower than it was a century ago, in several areas disturbingly lower. And this is in respect of real, grown food, as it comes from the farms and fresh food markets.
In addition to this, the modern diet now...

Comments On The Bhagavad Gita Vistior's page
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing that Pru Joy.
Interestingly, in the seventies (I think it was) Maharishi declared the 'Dawn of the Age of Enlightenment'. And in these times we can see the acceleration in the awakening of human consciousness.
So many authors are saying the same thing in so many different different ways. Maharishi's is one of the more eloquent versions I have read. It also offers a glimpse into what this website is all about - helping to clear the stresses and impedances that inhibit the nervous system from being pure.
The notion of 'Self-Alignment' mentioned on other pages of this website means just that: dissolving the impedance in the nervous system so that the "inner individuality of the spirit" is consciously aligned with the "level of unlimited eternal Being", the true nature of the Self.
Again, thank you for writing a page for others to read.
~ Gavin

Bhagavad Gita (a site visitor's page)
I have just started reading thru the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's translation & commentary of The Bhagavad-Gita. I have read quite a few different translations over the past 34 years but in light of what I have only in the past year learnt with regard to Conscious Mental Rest, I now find that the Maharishi's commentary rings the bell most clearly & sweetly as far as getting my whole attention!

Gross Domestic Happiness And The FIFA 2010 World Cup
During the FIFA World Cup, the Gross Domestic Happiness of South Africa has undoubtedly sky-rocketed up to a whole new level. The challenge now is for all South Africans - especially the media - to maintain the momentum and create a snowball effect throughout the nation, so that everyone can enjoy the fruits of the re-enlivened national vibe.
So, here are my hopes for the post-World Cup era in my homeland, beautiful South Africa, bearing in mind that what we put our attention on, we enliven in our lives.

Posts from the old forum have not been moved across to here. The old forum is still accessible for reading items posted, but not for accepting new posts. The link may be found on other pages of the website.

Is Meditation Essential for Happiness?
Question from Tammy: Is there any other way of being happy other than meditation?
Answer: There are many ways to be happy. You seem to have a reluctance to spending some time each day sitting quietly? :-)
That's quite understandable. It is a time commitment, after all ... like jogging or going to the gym.
On my website, I suggest two basic approaches: (1) tapping into the reservoir of happiness within (in my case, using Conscious Mental Rest); and (2) enlivening our inner happiness by following the inner prompts from within -- i.e. doing what our inner 'voice' tells is right and appropriate.

Vuvuzela Concerto in B Flat
Aha! Someone has finally written down the sheet music for the Vuvuzela Concerto in B Flat. This is wonderful! I can't wait to attend the performance by the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra. Apparently all the musicians will be swapping their instruments on that night and playing vuvuzelas instead.

Soccer World Cup Blogger Comments
Opinions vary about the 2010 Soccer World Cup extravaganza being held in South Africa, and whether it is generating enough happiness to make it all worthwhile.
Some people love the noisy vuvuzelas, others hate them. Some think it's a money-machine lining the pockets of the organizers and those on the inside.
Others feel it is a wonderful event that is lifting the spirits of millions of South Africans. Here's what one content contributor to this site has to say. Do you agree? Disagree?
