Finding Happiness - But Where To Look?

Finding happiness 'out there'
Is like trying to see your own eye.
The eye cannot see itself;
It can only see a reflection of itself in a mirror,
Or in a still pool of water.
~ Gavin Hoole

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
~ T. S. Elliot

The source of happiness is not somewhere 'out there'. It is, quite literally, within one's own being. So looking outside oneself for true happiness is a futile exercise.

My personal experiences validate the above statement

'Happiness comes from within' has been said over and over throughout the ages. And the scriptures of various religions tell us that 'the kingdom of heaven is within you.'

I am indeed fortunate enough to have experienced this truth first-hand. The first time I can remember was when I was about four years old .

I've had several other more profond experiences too that have confirmed to me without any doubt that there is a source of bliss inside us that can be tapped into, if one knows how. I've described some of these on pages that can be accessed via the theme Happy People . So it is with both joy and also confidence that I can share with you the realness of such a statement, knowing that I am not simply mouthing what others have said.

Natural and easy is the way to happiness

Another quote I remember from my own Christian tradition is that the kindom of heaven (within oneself) cannot be taken by storm. This is so true too.

Human beings are 'wired' to experience the happiness within, without having to resort to magical techniques, disciplines or contrived practices. One just has to get out of one's own way, and the happiness within will unlock itself.

This is explained in more detail on other pages of this site.
