People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within.
Comment: I totally agree. And the “search” is actually an “allowing”. There is no need to search. Happiness is already there, inside. We only need to allow it to come out, to unlock our happiness, and that is all we need to give our attention to: unlocking the happiness from within, and being sensible about reducing the sources of stress that impede its free flow into our daily experience.
W. Beran Wolfe
If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator. He will not be striving for it as a goal in itself. He will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living life twenty-four crowded hours of the day.
Comment: In a nutshell, I believe that what this quotation about happiness is saying is that happiness is in the moment, in our own being and in our own experience in whatever a truly happy person is doing at the time. A really happy man will spontaneously be doing what he enjoys doing, because by being happy is already in tune with himself and is less prone to engaging in activities and thoughts that infringe on his experience of happiness.
Quotation About Happiness (Happiness Quotes - Page 7)
The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be.
Comment: One can think about the past and, in the present moment of thinking, focus on and enjoy the happy experiences already had in the past. This changes our vibration to a happy one. But if we compare that with a present situation we are not happy about, then our present vibration will become consumed with sadness, unhappiness, because by comparison we “see the past as better than it was”, and therefore “the present worse than it is.” Likewise, from that standpoint of dissatisfaction, our thinking projects into the future and we taint that future with concern that nothing is clear or resolved. It’s just so uncertain”. That adds anxiety about the future to the already unhappy mix of emotions. The key is to “be here now”, and experience this moment as it is, without comparison, and without judgement.
Here's the quotation about happiness by Buddha
Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.
Comment: This is so true. And happiness, by its very nature, wants to be shared. Moreover, it propels us to share itself. If you’ve ever been somewhere very special on your own, without a loved one, or a friend, there is this feeling of incomplete enjoyment of the experience. We have the feeling, “I wish so-and-so were here to see or experience this!” And when that someone is there with us, we spontaneously call their attention to what it is that is bringing us joy – the sunrise, perhaps, or the hugeness of the man-made building, or the unusual cloud formation above.
