Positive Thought For The Day

Help Create A Complaint-Free World

Here's a positive thought for the day that arrived in my e-mail IN box this morning as my monthly e-zine, Happiness Hub, was about to go out. So I thought it would be a good idea to put up a Web page for it quickly and add a link to it in the e-zine.

I have seen this one before, so it might be an 'oldie'. But even if it is, it's worth re-reading. It goes like this:

The positive thought for the day e-mail

Hi, I just got back from a Women's Fitness Camp in the Rockies. It was a fun week and we had a lot of different topics. We did every exercise imaginable, a lot of hiking and also some craft projects. One of them was:

Commit to a complaint-free world

Complaining is habitual for most of us. Scientists believe it takes 21 days to form a new habit. So the goal is to go 21 consecutive days without complaining.

Bracelet

In this activity, you will make a beaded elastic bracelet of your own design. (If you do this at home, it can be any kind of bracelet - even an elastic band from your stationery drawer or an elastic hair thingy that holds a poney-tail in place.)

Begin to wear this bracelet on one of your wrists.

When you catch yourself complaining (it's okay, everyone does) move the bracelet to the opposite wrist and start your 21 day count over again.

If you hear someone complain, you can remind him or her to switch their bracelet. But you may only do so after you've moved your own bracelet first because you are complaining about their comlplaining.

Remember, the goal is to increase your own level of self-awareness and transformation.

Stay with it. The average person takes four to eight months to go 21 consecutive days complaint-free.

We did it and we were constantly switching the bracelet...but you were aware of it...and that is the main point here.

Use this neat idea to culture other new habits too

When you've completed this positive thought for the day process, why not try it out with other thought patterns you'd like to change too?

You could also involve a family member or friend who could help you in the early days by reminding you when you're complaining, in case you don't realize it at first.

On this point, I don't totally agree that you must change the bracelet evry time you remind someone else that they are complaining. It all depend on your own feelings when you do that, and the circumstances.

Assuming you have an arrangement with someone to do this project together: if your feelings and your tone of voice carry a helpful

However, if you say it in a complaining or 'negative' or critical way, then that is when you should change your bracelet to the other wrist. (Just a thought; in the end, it's your call. *s* )

Perhaps this commitment plan can be put to good use when following the guidelines of the free online course in how to be happy.

Try it and let us know how it goes.
