Meditation Techniques That Work

There are three meditation techniques that I can personally vouch for in terms of leading the mind to the field of happiness within. They are described below.

This first one below is my personal favourite.

Conscious Mental RestTM (CMRTM)

CMR - Conscious Mental Rest - Name Logo This has become my favourite method of moving towards mental stillness.

It's the most natural and effortless of the effective meditation techniques I can personally vouch for based on my experience with various methods.

It can be used by anyone because it is safe and has no association whatsoever with any religion, philosophy, Eastern or Western tradition, guru, master or modern technologies such as sound frequencies or beats.

This method came to me spontaneously in my own consciousness after one of my regular meditation sessions with another technique I had been using for many years. ( The origins of Conscious Mental Rest TM)

As far as I’m concerned, CMRTM is the most natural way of ‘meditating’ I have yet come across. I sometimes jokingly call it “transcending meditation” because it not only takes one towards the transcendent, but, in a way, it almost transcends the very notion of ‘meditation’ itself.

In fact, I generally prefer not to lump it in the basket of meditation techniques or methods. I prefer to call it Conscious Mental RestTM, which is a pretty accurate description of what the process is. However, there is a specific process involved. It is not simply sitting there and daydreaming or observing your thoughts, or your breath, and such like.

From my own experience, Conscious Mental RestTM is (for me) just as effective as Transcendental MeditationTM - which itself stands above other meditation techniques. And CMRTM can truly be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what their beliefs or non-beliefs may be about life, philosophy, religion or anything else.

So I can comfortably share CMRTM with others, knowing that they (and I) need have absolutely no reservations whatsoever.

Transcendental MeditationTM (TM)

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of Transcendental meditation, passed on 2008 If you can afford the course fee, and you have no reservations about its Eastern origins or any other aspects of the TM programme or the TM organization, then you will find that Transcendental MeditationTM, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is one of the most effective and the most scientifically validated of all meditation methods.

There are a good number of sites offering strong opinions about TM – both for it and against it. For a fairly objective approach to the scientific research done on TM over these past decades, here’s a useful starting point. It’s a site called Truth About TM created by David Orme-Johnson, PhD.

On that website Dr Orme-Johnson includes references to scientific research done on other meditation techniques besides TM.

Natural Stress Relief© (NSR) meditation

Scientia - Natural Stress Relief© I consider this to be another of the effective meditation techniques that can be used as one of the two do-able keys to happiness.

NSR Meditation is based on the same meditating principles as Transcendental MeditationTM, although it is taught in a totally different manner and is not associated with TM or the TM organization.

The NSR meditation technique is taught by means of an instruction manual and a CD. In NSR you use a 'syllable' in very much the same manner as the mantra is used during TM.

The course fee for NSR is very, very much lower than that for TM, and this seems to have been one of the prime reasons that the course came into being in the first place – as an affordable alternative to Transcendental MeditationTM.

Natural Stress Relief© meditation was initiated by a PhD graduate in Italy, who had been a practitioner of Transcendental MeditationTM and the TM-Sidhis. NSR has a branch in the USA which is run by a former teacher of TM.
