The Best Nutritional Supplement:
How Can One Tell?

Search this site:

Finding the best nutritional supplement is not really a viable pursuit, because it all depends on your body's needs. Also, one's needs are different at different times. Moreover, everyone is different, and different supplements can have different effects on different individuals.

Do we actually need to supplement our diet anyway?

Free e-book with your new (free) subscription to the Happiness Hub monthly e-zineThere is enough researched evidence available today to conclusively show that the nutritional value of food in the 21st century is significantly lower than it was a century ago - in several areas disturbingly lower. And this is in respect of real, grown food, as it comes from the farms and fresh food markets.

In addition to this, the modern diet now includes processed foods and what are referred to as 'junk' foods' and beverages. A large percentage of the population in first world countries is consuming such substances in large proportions, and in many cases also in large quantities.

These factors alone have led to all sorts of diseases that were hardly known a century ago. And this has led to a proliferation in the number and variety of drugs that have been developed and are produced in large quantities by the pharmaceutical industry.

This page is part of the Health and Happiness theme of the site.

The mushrooming nutritional supplements industry

Alongside these developments we have also seen a massive growth explosion in the nutritional supplements industry, in my opinion fuelled by two major factors:

  1. a realization that something needs to be done to offset the unhealthy deterioration in the nutritional value of food eaten by so many people worldwide, and
  2. a realization of a business opportunity by people who have the knowledge and capability to produce dietary supplements on a large scale.

So, with so many products now available on the market, and new ones being introduced probably every week, it becomes extremely difficult to decide which is the best nutritional supplement for one's own particular needs. The pages in this series will address this dilemma and try to hone in on the most important aspects to take into account when deciding what is best for YOU.

Here's the reality

Food produced by nature, without human interference (fertilizers, pesticides, genetic modification, soil over-utilization, etc.), has the best nutritional value. It is produced by the wisdom of natural intelligence.

All food supplements are created by the human mind. And science itself has told us that we human beings tend to use only a small percentage of our full potential - something like less that 10% or even lower than 5%. So, as the saying goes, do the math. Can we ever say with total confidence that food supplements are as good as food, or that any one product is the best nutritional supplement available?

Two criteria for making a better choice

Notwithstanding what is said above, it is probably safe to say that the best nutritional supplement is the one that is closest to nature's organic food itself. And this means two things:

  1. Supplements that use beneficial natural, organic substances in their formulation, with the least amount of laboratory interference, would be the supplements of choice.
  2. Supplements developed and produced by people with a clearer state of consciousness, and not mainly from a profit motive, are likely to be better for the human body, because more wisdom is used in their formulation.

So, where to now?

In this section of the Health and Happiness theme of this website, I will be adding pages that explain more about two particular types of nutritional supplements with which I am somewhat familiar and which I myself take as a daily additive to my normal food intake.

The one group has been developed by a personal friend of mine, named David Townsend, who is a qualified herbal expert. The other group has been developed by an international company whose focus is on what are known as FoodState® nutrients.
